The Yellowstone National Park Silver Bullion Coin will be released in 2010 as part of the US Mint’s new bullion program. If the coins are released sequentially, this would be the second issue of the series.
The obverse and reverse designs will be exact duplicates of the designs used for the Yellowstone Quarter. The obverse will feature a restored portrait of George Washington and the reverse will feature an image representing Yellowstone National Park. The reverse depicts the famous geyser Old Faithful as it erupts, with American Bison pictured in the foreground and background.
The Yellowstone Silver Bullion Coin will contain 5 ounces of .999 fine silver, which are indicated on incused edge lettering. The coins will be distributed through the US Mint’s network of authorized bullion purchasers, likely based on the prevailing value of the silver plus a mark up.
Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 as America’s first National Park, with borders extending through Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. The park features a variety of wildlife and geothermal structures, including the famous Old Faithful.
